Can not afford health insurance for my child

Can not afford health insurance for my child.?
I can no longer afford to have my daughter covered through my work. I am eligible for chip. How do i go about applying? I was told before that I couldn't even apply because she is covered already.

Most plans will not accept you as you have access to insurance through your work.
2 :
The rules for CHIP vary from state to state - in many states, the child has to be uninsured for six full months before being eligible for coverage. You'd go to your state CHIP website, and get the exact application procedure there.

I need advise about my unborn child and health coverage... HELP

I need advise about my unborn child and health coverage... HELP!?
We live in CA. I'm 32 weeks Pregnant (due oct 21 2009) I have a two and a half year old who is on the Healthy Families Program. Well as you may know HFP is not excepting new applicants. (so that leaves my unborn child with no coverage) Their father and I make too much for med-ical but not enough to get insurance through our work. It would cost me 350 a month just for me and my infant to be covered through my work and they don't have open enrollment anyway. I would have to wait until April 2010 to sign up. My question is, are there any other low cost insurance plans for infants out there in CA? Is anyone else in the same position as I am? If there is other people who's children are not covered what do you do when they need to see a Dr or need shots? HELP!

When you have a life changing event, such as a birth or death in the family, insurance companies are required to open enrollment to you in order to allow you to enroll the child, or take off the deceased family member. This also goes for marriages and divorce. Talk to your benefits coordinator at work, or look into Chip. "Children's Health Insurance Plan", may be available in your area. We used it as kids living in San Jose CA, as our parents were in your same situation financially. I would also contact HFP and ask about other programs they may be affiliated with. If worst comes to worst, you may have to use your work's insurance for a while. You can always look into clinics as well. There are many low cost clinics, but they do have income requirements and you may not qualify. Good luck!
2 :
I think your newborn will be covered, you just have to add him to the plan. if not the hospital will give you options. If for some reason you don't get insurance there is a lot of low cost clinics for children.

you ARE a health risk

Thanks for two points!
5 :
Well, I'm sure there would be plenty of health risks having a child vacuumed out of your stomach, especially since they grow in your uterus.
6 :
They say slim to none, minus the weird head shape The rest of these ppls r stupid
7 :
I'm pretty sure they mean when you need help getting the baby out... They use vacuum suction or something. There are risks, but I'm not sure what they are.
8 :
Lame. If you think your funny or cute your totally wrong.
9 :
There are health risks with any procedure, including getting a splinter removed or your toenails clipped. Don't eat children - then you won't have to worry about them being in your stomach in the first place.

wow...smart ones tonight

Being in the children health care career

Being in the children health care career?
how is it different than the usual? is it easier or harder?

I am a nurse and I love children, I would have a hard time working in a oncology floor (cancer floor) at a children's hospital. Although different people have different callings. It all depend on what you are passionate about. In my case I am not into geriatrics (older folks), I don't see me spending the rest of my nursing career at a nursing home per se. I do love children, ER and labor and delivery.

Did your children experience many health problems with exclusive formula feedings

Did your children experience many health problems with exclusive formula feedings?
I am in a situation where I am needing to start feeding my soon to be 3 month old formula exclusively over breast milk. I wanted to know if any parents who have children 1 year and older ever experienced major health issues with their children who were exclusively formula fed.
Newborn & Baby - 17 Answers

1 :
My son is 13 months & no problems
2 :
If you have no choice, don't worry about it. Some will have health concerns as a result and some won't but you can only do what you can - no more x
3 :
I NEVER breastfed my daughter & she is GREAT!! She's only ever had one cold & it only lasted for 4 days!! No other problems whatsoever! Formula feeding is NOT BAD at all!! Formula today is more like breast milk than ever before...your baby will be just fine! Don't worry & get to mixing formula! :)
4 :
My son is 6 now. He had no health problems. My SIL breastfed all three of her kids exclusively. They were sick all of the time. So, I don't buy into the whole breast being healthiest idea. I think formula and breast milk are very similar.
5 :
My oldest daughter was breastfed for 6months, then exclusively formula fed. She is now 3 years old and has asthma and chronic ear infections. It's impossible to say if it's because I only nursed for 6 months or not.
6 :
Formula does not even compare to breast milk. However, if you have no choice I know * a lot * of people who fesd their babies formula and they all seem fine.
7 :
My daughter was fed formula and she never gets sick, she has not had any illnesses on 4 years, and her last illness was only throw up after eating at TGI Fridays one afternoon so I think she had food poisoning. She had ear infection and tubes as a toddler but her specialist said this had to do with her development and her dad had same problem and so he said this was just a development that was genetic in nature, as he said would happen after the tubes she had never had another ear infection again, she lost the tubes as she outgrew them and she developed and has not had any ear problems again so he had told me this problem had nothing at all to do with formula feeding even though ear infections are more common in formula fed babies as she would have had issues anyway.
8 :
My niece was breastfed until she was a little over a year old and she is as healthy as she can be. She has never had any stomach or gas problems, etc. In fact, she didn't get sick until AFTER she stopped breastfeeding. My nephew, on the other hand, was breastfed for two months and when he was switched over to formula feeding he started getting all sorts of problems. Sour tummy, gas, bad spit-ups, etc. Though formula isn't "unhealthy", I personally believe it doesn't protect infants getting sick like breastfeeding does. Breastfeeding helps the immune system develop (when formula doesn't), as well as provides lots of anti-viruses for the baby. It provides 100% correct nutrition. Overall, it's better for the baby.
9 :
My son would not breastfeed, so he has been on formula for a year now. He is perfectly healthy and had never even gotten sick. Don't worry, your baby will be fine.
10 :
My daughter would no longer take breastmilk after 3 months, she's had no major (or even many minor) health concerns that don't normally happen in our family (for instance, eczema is a family condition, we've had it for generations, so when she had the same old pattern that's what everyone else had whether they were exclusively breastfed or not. And for the record, I have the worst allergies in the family and I was breastfed the longest.) Studies have been showing more and more that the only health benefits of breastmilk are increased antibodies that may help fighting off diseases, and an increase of intelligence (about 2-3 points, which may be more explained by the behavior of breastfeeding... ie, the babies are held every time, talked to more often, snuggled, etc.) Everything else, from allergies, increase of cancer, obesity, etc are correlations that have more to do with the health of the mother and genetic health of the baby. (For instance, a mother who breastfeeds is less likely to have cancer, and a baby who breastfeeds is less likely to have cancer. Alright, a mother who doesn't breastfeed is more likely to be a mother who has supply issues, and she is more likely to have hormonal imbalances that increase her risk for cancer and have nothing to do with whether she breastfeeds or not, but does make it more difficult for her to breastfeed, and this hormonal imbalance, while the baby was in the womb, would have affected the baby and genetically makes the baby more likely to have cancer as an adult, no matter WHAT the baby is fed.) Don't feel guilty for doing what is best for your baby. Breastfeeding is still best, for as long as you can keep it up it's best, even if you only do one feeding a day or express 1/2 an oz for them a day. But if you have to stop, and there's not much of a choice here, then formula is not poison or conclusively connected to health problems. Correlated, yes, but not causing them.
11 :
I don't know what your doctor is telling you but you probably could still breastfeed and have him be alright...check out this website..it explains that in very very rare cases do babies need to be on formula. http://www.drjacknewman.com/default.asp
12 :
The only time my daughter had health issues was when she was breastfed. We've had no problems with formula. She's very happy and healthy.
13 :
My son was formula fed starting at 3 months. He was sick all the time-Constant colds, pneumonia, viruses. But-He's 4 now, and he's perfectly healthy, rarely gets sick. My daughter, who was breastfed for 2 years, gets sick far more often. Frankly, I think it depends on the kid, not the way they are fed.
14 :
No my son has never suffered from any major health problems, minus the occasional cold. He's actually a really healthy boy. I had my son on a lactose free, organic, formula. I gave him probiotics to help with gut health. Now he's a healthy & happy 7 year old.
15 :
My oldest is formula feed and never had any ear infection. She only have one high fever when she's almost 9 months old. She's 2 years old now and very healthy. My youngest is 4 months old and also formula feed. She hasn't got sick yet. Formula isn't poison. it wouldn't make your baby unhealthy! And its just depend on your child not how you feed them.
16 :
My daughter is 22 months old and was formula fed from 2 weeks to 11.5 months. She has never had more than a mild flu.
17 :
My daughter is 18 months and I have breastfed with minimal formula supplements until now. And she has had a lot of health problems. So even though statistics say breastfeeding is better (which it is if you can do it,) babies who are breastfed can still have issues. My daughter had 6 or 7 ear infections and needed to get tubes placed in her ears, which it has stopped them dead in their tracks. She has had numerous colds and pink eye. And the two biggies were that she was hospitalized at 12 months and then again at 13 months almost in the PICU with RSV, pneumonia, bronchiolitis and then bronchitis. Shes never around smoke and she is breastfed. Crazy right? EDIT: I do want to add that I had ear tubes, so that part of it is probably genetic.

Would you risk a child's health just to make a few dollars

Would you risk a child's health just to make a few dollars?
R&S I'm asking you guys because you give interesting insight-- also, this is a bit of a morality question. So please bear with me, it's a long one. And let me say first of all, I love piercings-- I have many. But this just made me cringe. So tonight while browsing CraigsList I found this advertisement: *** ~*~Not 18? Want your ears pierced??!!~*~ i am a certified ear piercing specialist who has been piercing for almost two years. i use the same instrument that you would see at Claires Boutique or Icing Stores. as well as 14ct white or yellow gold pre-packaged ear piercing earrings. completely safe! completely professional! easy! no age limits! prices are as follows: Pair of earrings and Piercing (lobe): $12 Single earring and Piercing (lobe): $6 Single earring and Piercing (cartilage): $8 Pair of earrings and Piercing (cartilage): $14 EVERY EARRING IS 14kt GOLD and is HYPOALLERGENIC ! you are also sent home with cleaning solution. i WILL NOT do any body part that is not the ears. DONT EVEN ASK. interested? contact me to set up an appointment!!! s.graffius@yahoo.com or TEXT ONLY 480.452.8265 *** Piercing guns are SOOO incredibly unsafe! I learned the hard way...check out the links below before answering: http://www.safepiercing.org/FAQ.html http://www.homiegfunk.com/gunssuck.htm http://bodypiercingtattooingandbodymodification.yuku.com/topic/3763/t/Why-Piercing-Guns-are-Dangerous.html This ad reeks of "no parental consent" as well. Doesn't this bring up a legal mess? Lastly, I also think piercing babies is wrong because they can't ask, and it's a serious health risk...hence why pros only pierce kids old enough to ask and know what they're getting into. Also, babies have a weaker immune system. How could someone risk their baby's life like this? What do you think? Jade-- Problem is, guns can't be sterilized. Anything that can't be autoclaved (the sterilization they use in the hospitals) shouldn't make holes in someone's body. Hepatitis B is one of the many things that will not die, no matter what you do to a piercing gun short o throwing it in the fire. Alsohol wipes and dips don't do much at all. Also, this person is apparently doing this from his/her home. Not sterile... But yes, getting a piercing done with a pro and realy sterilized equiptment is quite safe. But, this isn't a pro, and they don't have sterile equiptment. I just find it scary that people profess that guns are safe then offer "no age limits". Lawsuit, anyone? Miss Dee-- Nope, no laws in AZ about piercings except that you have to be 18 to get a genital piercing. I'd be fine with this if the person was working from a sterile studio with steril equiptment. I hae seven piercings-- five lobes with the gun, which all had serious problems, and a septum and hand web piercing with needles, which have had none. I am addicted to piercings...but guns are out.

You say it "reeks of no parental consent". I'd find out first before a moral judgement of any kind be considered.
2 :
This guy is begging for a law suit. You let some kid come home with holes in their ears after sneaking behind their parents and they will find out where they got it. At least he was smart enough to refuse to do any other body parts, so as to avoid a child molestation charge.
3 :
That's disgusting and I would report this person to the Health people. Is there no law against it?
4 :
it falls back on "buyer beware" currently there are no laws protecting buyers from items that are not required to give full disclosure unless you ask the right questions upfront. even then you may be lied to.
5 :
Whatever happened to the using a needle and an apple?
6 :
Ummm....getting your baby's ears pierced by a *professional* is safe.....as safe as when a physician performs a circumcision on an infant boy. They are both sterile procedures. If you simply do not like the idea, that is your opinion...does not make it any less safe. And also, you argue piecing guns are unsafe...but anything has the potential of being unsafe when used incorrectly and not with caution. Now, I do not agree with piercings being done on children without the parents consent.
7 :
My mother let me have my ears pierced when I was eight. I do find it disgusting little babies as young as 6 months having earrings in their ears.there should be a law about it PLUS kids with facial piercings 10 year olds come on ..A little girl who plays with my kid told the person doing her peircing her mother consented to it (which she didn't) 5 minutes later the girl was the proud owner of a stud just above her lip. It was the ugliest thing I have ever seen!!!
8 :
hey she lives in Arizona! that's where i live! maybe i should give her a call! thanks for advertising her!! Not! she must be desperate um there is law! you have to be 18 or have a parent/guardian present
9 :
Spare the rod and spoilt the child is what the bible says and all ands I reckon it's good enough for the Lord then it's plenty good enough for me too a s far as the making the money offa the children goes.

The school endangered my child's health

The school endangered my child's health?
My 6 yo son, with Autism, was given a Flu shot at school today. The problem is....he had one 5 days ago from his Dr., the teacher had "no clue he got a shot today" (at school), my son now has a swollen and sore arm, the school nurse offered no explanation....Please advise me before I do the wrong thing? I am kinda vindictive when it comes to my reactions after my child has been put in danger, is this an appropriate time to be that way? The only form I signed was for him to get treatment from the "Asthma Express" nurses that visit the school. They informed me they were not able to give him the Flu shot because of his allergy to eggs. He has had Flu shots before, but they insisted the PCP had to give it to him. So, they gave him his asthma meds and the Dr. gave him the Flu shot 16 days later (5 days ago). Today, they show up and give it to him anyway....and 90 other children. No specific vaccine form was signed by me. WHY DID THE TEACHER NOT KNOW MY SON LEFT AND GOT A SHOT???

sue um 4 all they got
2 :
You are absolutely in the right here.
3 :
I would be more than upset about this. You need to have your child checked to make sure his health is okay and then review the school polices on giving shots. If they needed consent and didn't get it, I'd contact a lawyer.
4 :
getting 2 flu shots does that???? i think your kid did something and is using flu shot as an excuse
5 :
If i were you i would first call your family doctor to make sure your child will be fine. Second, I would probably go to the school board meeting and complain.
6 :
oh my gosh, that is terrible! I would his doctor right away, and E-mail the school princible.
7 :
The knowledge of the Nurse or teacher wouldnt matter, they are simply not responsible for knowing. It is the principal or association that is releasing the shots to the school that is responsible for letting you know and ASKING FOR PERMISSION to administer the vaccine. They cannot even give the child cold medicine without your permission, they are for DAMN sure not allowed to give your child any form of Vaccine without your permission. I would definately be raising some hell, not with the teacher or nurse, i would start with questioning the teacher and board of education. That is not okay at all and i wouldnt let it slide. ADD: the teacher may have not known because the children may have been gathered in small groups during recess or lunch. These are the teacher's prep periods. This is when the children at the school that i worked at got louce checks, eye exams, and ear exams.
8 :
Since when do schools just give shots without parental consent. Get a lawyer. I do not have my children vaccinated due to fears of autism and other serious complications. If I found out that they gave a shot to my children, I would be on a warpath to shut the school down.
9 :
I can't believe they gave him a shot without your permission!! I went to take my son to get him a flu shot at the doctors office and they ask me if he was allergic to eggs, which I said Yes, and then they told me he couldn't have the shot! They said people that are allergic to eggs could have an allergic reaction to the flu shot. I know that is a different case from you, but still, I can't imagine a school having the authority to give a child shot without a parent's permission. I wouldn't stand by and take this crap. Good luck.
10 :
go to a doctor and if they put him in danger than sue the school and get your kid a bunch of toys or somthing to make him/her happy
11 :
My first response is to ask did you sign or verbally give permission to the school to administer any type of shot? If not, you need to contact an attorney and start law suit proceedings. Our schools are to protect our children not endanger them. Good luck!
12 :
I would ask why they give any child any medicines without prior approval of the parent. You should take him to his pediatrician and get medical advise, then if you're the litigious type, find a good ambulance chaser.
13 :
Your question is kind of confusing. Unless there is written permission from a parent or guardian, no school nurse is going to give a "flu" shot to a student. A student can't even have a package of Tylenol with him/her and has to turn it in the office. Check with your principal and find out what really happened.
14 :
I would be very upset by this. They shouldn't be doing anything medical with your child with out written consent, EVER
15 :
I would be so angry! Of course you have the right to be vindictive, angry and outspoken! Call the doctor (to make sure hes okay) and the school board. Tell everyone, write a letter to the newspaper. Don't let it happen to another child!
16 :
Did you not have to sign some sort of form before they administered your child the flu shot? If not, that is very bizzare, I thought it was the law to get parents to sign a form before the school or a nurse can give minor children shots without the parent being there. If you did sign a form then it is your fault for not advising the school that your son had just received his shot. If you did not sign a form I would be pissed and ask to speak with the principle. If he/she doesn't take action then maybe seek legal counsel if u think it is worth the time, money and energy to deal with a lawyer regarding this. Hopefully your son is OK.
17 :
OH HELL NO. Are you serious??? Get up tomorrow morning and call your doctor to see what effects the double dose of the shot will do to your son (or look it up on the internet tonight) then march down to that school and talk to the principal. How the hell are they even giving the shot at school?? Talk to the nurse too. Did you turn in a record of his shots to the nurse???? Did you tell them he had his shot last week? This is too bizarre for words.
18 :
I would check with your doctor to make sure there won't be any long term damage first, then I'd march into the principal's office and demand some answers. They have to have parental consent to give any child a shot. It is the responsibility of the teacher, nurse, AND principal to make sure that consent form is signed! Furthermore, as your son is autistic, and depending on the severity of his autism, he probably couldn't very well inform them that he'd already had a flu shot, plus he's six! It's not his job to keep them updated, but theirs to update their information with you. I would definitely be angry, you have every right to be. Go in tomorrow and get some answers and if there is damage done, you may consider contacting a lawyer. At the very least, you might consider switching schools. Good luck!
19 :
The school is at fault. First off, a letter should have been sent home well in advance to allow parents the chance to give consent or to state they don't want it. If you did not get such a notice and your child was given "medication" without your knowledge then by all means you should be worried. There are children out there that are allergic to some of the components in vaccinations and flu shots (all my children are), this is a complete disrespect to the parent to allow such a thing to happen and take a chance with a child's health. Take your child to his doctor for a check up. If nothing else it is recorded he was taken to see his normal doctor. If there is a bill, take that with you to the next school board meeting and demand they pay for the visit it took to make sure your son wasn't harmed by the double shot. Then file a complaint with the board involving the school nurse and anyone else involved with the episode. I am so sorry this happened to you and your son.
20 :
First, call his dr. now and make sure all is ok. Contact the principal and go directly to the school board tomorrow morning. DO NOT WAIT! Get a lawyer! They will settle very fast.
21 :
My first action would be to call my child's pediatrician. How can the school do anything without your consent?? Especially something like a vaccination. Around here, no school employee can even give your child cough drops without a written consent from the parent. I would be absolutely livid. I say definitely don't let this get swept under the carpet. Even if everything is ok with YOUR child, you need to do all you can to make sure the same thing doesn't happen to someone else's child.
22 :
what the school did was wrong. They shouldnt have been giving out the flu shot in the first place, that is not a required shot to have so it is not their business to administer it without parental consent. I would bring it up to the school board. With that being said though, I used to be in the army and had multiple shots, multiple times. I would have just gotten say the hep A shot one month, and then the next month they would "not have record of it" even though I had it on paper (with their signature on it!), it wasnt in their system so I would have to get it again. The point of me telling you that is that I am still alive and okay. Your son should be fine, the swelling and soreness is probably just from the injection itself. I wouldnt worry too much, but this is not to say that I wouldnt make a complaint. Just wouldnt go as far as trying to sue the school.
23 :
okay , take a deep breath. I have a son with autism too and forms have bene signed by me and his father THAT NO ONE is to give him shots but his peidatrician, PERIOD. I know how you feel but let me play devils advocate for a minute. did they send you a form about what dates the schools were giving shots ? I read everything the school gives me to make sure I don't miss anything, since my son is young and it worries me ((( HUGS ))) just have his peid check him out hun
24 :
She did! As for the swelling and soreness, that's actually a normal reaction to flu shots. I got one while I was in the hospital when my son was born and I had that reaction. Warm compresses help. You should go directly to the school board and file an official complaint against all of them. You should also notify your doctor and see what he or she can do to help the situation. That teacher can so lose her job for that. The school has to have a specific consent form on file that clearly states you give approval for your child to receive a flu shot. I had to sign a consent to receive flu vaccine form and I had mine in a hospital!
25 :
This makes me so irrate!! If I was in this situation I would make it be known that I am very upset. This is wrong. I would contact an atty too, I dont know how you feel but vaccines are dangerous and you as a parent are the one who needs to make the decison. They messed up and please make it be known! Contact the school board and the health dept in your area and also call the vaccine hotline too!!

Are health benefits considered part of child support in California? I pay for my 2 kids' benefits

Are health benefits considered part of child support in California? I pay for my 2 kids' benefits.?
My wife and I are trying to agree on a fair child support amount for our pending divorce. My 2 girls, ages 13 and 10 live with her approximately 70 percent of the time. I pay an additional $435 a month for health care benefits for my daughters above and beyond what my employer contributes. Does that amount relate to child support, having the effect of lowering my obligatory amount each month? My family and I live in the state of California.

Contact a lawyer. All states are different.
2 :
If you have proof of the expense it should lower your child support. I would contact your local Child support office and ask for a review and submit all your proof when asked. let me know how it went
3 :
Go here... http://www.alllaw.com/calculators/Childsupport/california/ And type in your numbers. The amount of the insurance premium that YOU pay that covers the CHILDREN. So of coverage for you would be $200/month, you get to claim the extra $200 that provides coverage for the children. But use the support calcualtor and you can get a good idea.
