When it comes to the medical bills for a child, do separated parents split the costs down the middle

When it comes to the medical bills for a child, do separated parents split the costs down the middle?
My fiance and his ex have a 5 year old child together. They were never married, but my fiance pays child support and she secures health insurance coverage. Who is responsible for the medical bills and if both, how is it divided? Thanks!

It depends on their court orders. The standard in my state is that the first $250 of out of pocket costs go to the parent receiving child support and after that it's split either 50/50 or in proportion to income (meaning if one parent makes $3000 per month and the other makes $1500 per month, the parent making $3000 would pay 2/3 of the expense to the other parent's 1/3). If you split expenses 50/50 then you would also share tax deductions 50/50. If you split in proportion to income, then you'd split the tax deductions the same way.

That's fully dependent on the court order. To learn a father's rights, join Dads House in Yahoo Groups. How can Republicans be against health care reform when children have died because they didn't have insurance

How can Republicans be against health care reform when children have died because they didn't have insurance?
An estimated 17,000 children in the United States might have died unnecessarily over nearly two decades because they didn't have health insurance, according to a report from researchers at Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore. http://www.usnews.com/health/managing-your-healthcare/policy/articles/2009/10/29/17000-child-deaths-linked-to-lack-of-insurance.html

1 :
Republicans don't care if children die, all Republicans care about is money and hatred.
2 :
over 50 million children died since abortion became legal
3 :
sorry i cant answer, Glenn Beck show is starting!
4 :
Our rates will go up for those that don't want to work, I personally don't want to pay for something someone else made.
5 :
No one is against Health Care Reform. Many people are against the current legislation, however, as it doesn't provide workable solutions to the real problems. I am 100% in favor of health care reform. But it needs to be reform that solves the actual problems, not reform that just creates more bureacracy and room for corruption.
6 :
Notice the key word is MIGHT They MIGHT have died because they didn't have insurance. Or maybe because their parents were negligent and didn't take them to the hospital? Why don't you whine about the millions of unborn babies that have died because of abortion?
7 :
What makes you think that Republicans give a toss about kids?
8 :
Over 20 years......it's over 20 years, or 850 a year. Not to sound cold,m but compared to 300 million Americans, 850 deaths is not enough to make such a radical change for the other 299,999,000 of us.
9 :
Again nobody wants kids to die. Question is WHY are the PARENTS of those kids having kids in the first place if they are not prepared and able to support and provide for their care and welfare!!! Why is their irresponsibility MY problem. I suppose i can run up and slap a hamburger out of your hand because you might get fat or heart disease???
10 :
And children die when they do have health insurance. The report you cite is pure speculation. It uses the term "might" which is nothing more than conjecture. The uninsured do indeed get medical care if they are willing to go to clinics and ER's.
11 :
I will repeat this one more time.....pay attention this time.....we are not against reform...we are against government run health care
12 :
Name one Republican who is against Healthcare Reform. "17,000 children in the United States might have died unnecessarily over nearly two decades " Isn't that like 850 a year?
13 :
NO children are turned away at ANY hospital emergency room in America. I EARN my health benefits. EARN YOUR OWN. Why do libbies expect OTHERS to carry them through life? BTW: Shouldn't the PARENT'S of those children be responsible? WHERE do you libbies draw the line at TAKING what you don't EARN?
14 :
Wow, your gonna believe this crap! Obama voted against lifting mandates when he was a senator - that made costs go UP and provided less insurance for people. This liberal take over plan is only about Power! They could care less about people! Thats what they use and want people to believe! Im 44 years old and see thru these liberals - they lie everytime they open their mouth! Republicans do have plans and have tried for YEARS to lift mandates across state lines to make insurance CHEAPER! Liberals stopped it! If that passed then they could get control and try to destroy the private sector. They want govt to control healthcare! Republicans tried to reform and change the lawsuit problem that rises costs as well- Liberals are the Trial Lawyers and the scammers! Most Lawyers destroy our system and steal money from doctors and us the people.
15 :
Republicans are not against health care reform... so your question has no point. Repubs are against govt takeover of personal liberty and choices. The repub reform options have been rejected by the Left, and the Dem reforms have been rejected by the American people.
16 :
"Conservatives" are hypocrites! They don't want unwanted pregnancies terminated, yet it's OK for millions to suffer without health insurance it's OK to LET those people die! it's OK to kill tens of thousands of Iraqis not to mention 4,000 American troops on a WASTED war in Iraq, that had no justification and NO BENEFIT!
17 :
Oh you are confused... You see they only care about "children" when they are still inside of a person. Once the child is outside the vagina the caring stops.
18 :
50 million abortions have been done since roe v wade. how can you say you are protecting children? your logic is flawed. and the word "MIGHT" should have been emphasized a bit more.
19 :
And you forgot to add that these are usually the same people who are against abortion. I guess the fetus only matter while it is inside the woman, once is born if it gets sick it is their own problem to deal with. Again, coherence and common sense has never been part of the conservative agenda. Hypocrisy form their part I’d say.
20 :
Except those numbers are false, another Liberal lie/exaggeration. Federal Law provides health insurance (through the States) for minors whose parents cannot afford it. Both the State and the Federal government pick up the tab.
21 :
It's because Republicans only support government spending if it's on some sort of unnecessary war. And to the person who said that "50 million children have died since abortion became legal." -- How can something die if it was never living?
22 :
so...that would be just over 2 kids per day.
23 :
Health care vs, Insurance....look up the difference and you will learn that NO ONE is denied emergency health care in this country, not even cute little kids with no insurance.
24 :
Becuse they werent aborted. Thats the only kind republicans care about. Otherwise, Repyublicans like killing in war death penalty and ignorance.
25 :
It was obviously the Children's choice to die. What's a few thousand deaths when I can have the right to not get health insurance and make the rest of the country pay for my catastrophic care?
26 :
How can you make such a statement knowing the bill will cover abortions. A vote against it is a vote for our children. Anything else I can straighten you out about , don't be afraid to ask we're always here.
27 :
And according to the same report: "roughly 6.5 million children who are eligible for Medicaid or CHIP remain uninsured -- for whatever reason." So it seems that it's not a matter of reforming the insurance, or offering a public option. If a problem already exists and people don't want it, why create yet another program?
28 :
Republicans measure the value of a person's life according to the wealth of the person, so that saving one rich person is more valuable than saving several thousand poor children. When you adjust the health statistics for the wealth of the patients, the US health care system is just as efficient as the Canadian or European systems. It is like paying a little extra to join a country club instead of going to the public pool.
29 :
THE KEY WORD IN THAT REPORT IS "MIGHT" AND NO CHILD HAS EVER BEEN TURNED AWAY FROM MEDICAL TREATMENT BECAUSE OF LACK OF INSURANCE. NONE !
30 :
We have a program called CHIP which insure all children if their parents are not capable of affording it. It is very easy to get. So don't tell me children have dies because of no insurance. "CHIP has really worked and been very important and insures about 7 million kids in the country," Lesley said. Still, he said, roughly 6.5 million children who are eligible for Medicaid or CHIP remain uninsured -- for whatever reason. Maybe their parents do not care to file for it.
31 :
NO CHILD has died due to lack of health insurance. ALL CHILDREN AND PEOPLE ARE TAKEN CARE OF. THERE are free clinics everywhere! 8 governors have started health care in their states...Florida you can buy health care for 24 bucks or 500 bucks...depending on what you want. THIS IS NOT A FEDERAL ISSUES...we did not ask people to have babies they could not take care of. MAYBE they should NOT HAVE THEM UNTIL THEY ARE GROWN UP AND RESPONSIBLE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!! NO baby is ignored with health care. BLAME THE DAMN PARENTS WHO DO NOT TAKE CARE OF THEIR CHILDREN...not us! We don't even know them.....how are we responsible? Get a life dude....I am not responsible for someone thousands of miles away from me that I do not know. Even I coudl take care of everyone....someone would complain something wasn't being done ENOUGH....something else would be wrong. You libs just complain about EVERYTHING instead of TAKING CARE OF YOUR OWN BUSINESS! Why are you not complaining about the 76 (NOT 50) MILLION babies killed with abortion in the last 20 years. LOOK IT UP. And to those that say fetus's are not living...they have a heart and soul and brain etc. THEY ARE LIVING. WHO made you God to say when they live and when they don't. They depend on you as much as the ones that are born. But you want to kill them off...it is easier for YOU than to keep your legs crossed and zipper up!
32 :
Yes, all of us Republicans are heartless bastards. (Can you see my eyes rolling?) Emergency rooms do not turn uninsured people away. There are children's' hospitals like St. Jude that are free of charge for families who can't afford care, and accepts patients without health insurance. I am a Partner In Hope with St. Jude, with my monthly donation....are you? Republicans are not against health care/insurance reform. They are against Obama Care.
33 :
Might have died unnecessarily? Is this from the same thinking that came up with "saved jobs"? There are people who might have lived had they been riding in a bigger SUV or car.. do we need to provide bigger vehicles to everyone for free? Better yet.. if we all drove tanks, no one would be killed in vehicle collisions, do we all get free tanks and training to drive them? The point is simple. I don't work my butt off to pay for everyone else. If that's the case, I'll just stop working and get everything for free/cheap. Then it becomes painfully obvious that socialized programs cannot function without the wealth production that Capitalism provides. I paid for college so I could hope to get a better job. I didn't get any free money so it was all done with loans that I'm still paying off. If you want to reduce health care costs, then great. Let's work on finding ways to reduce health care costs without any negative impact on care quality. Shifting money from one group to simply cover the high costs of others though is not an option. Placing artificial limits on insurance companies which would result in a significant drop in coverage quality is also not an option.
34 :
Might have? Interesting way to put it. 'Fraid not. And if they didn't, why didn't they? The poor have medicare. Those who do not are wealthy enough to obtain insurance. Besides, are you really suggesting we bankrupt the country and potentially kill even more children and adults with the steaming pile of dog crap that government run health care is? I've lived with that, mate. I've lived and worked under your idea of government run health care. You don't have a clue and yet that's not stopping you. What a liberal you are!
35 :
It's very easy. I do it all the time.
36 :
Why are you bothering us with ths bogus study? http://www.john-goodman-blog.com/does-lack-of-insurance-cause-premature-death-probably-not/
37 :
Baltimore? A skewed Liberal estimate lie...How about Obama's job estimates, climate change estimates, sea rise estimates...Show me any estimate or ANYTHING you people do right! You're natural born losers and deserve your place at the bottom!
38 :
Wrong you have yet to produce on death certificate that states cause of death no inurance, , hospitals treat the uninsured by the way go to an emergency room and see for your self
39 :
Maybe you should go back and read the article yourself! I guess you missed the word "might" when the possibility of 17,000 children dying came up. Providing health care for everyone who wants it is great, except for one thing...how do WE pay for it? Why do you think that Europe pays the same price for oil that the United States does, but yet the price of a liter of petrol there runs between $7 & $8 per liter (US dollars). Our gasoline in the states costs about $2.50 to $2.75 per gallon. The Federal Government gets .17 cents per gallon tax and the counties get another .30 to .35 cents per gallon for their road and bridge repairs. The European countries government gets $4 to $4.50 per liter tax of their fuel! More tax than we pay for the product! This is one of the taxes their government charges their citizens in order for them to have a national health care plan! I've talked with people from France that could not believe they could come to the USA and buy a Snickers candy bar from a machine for .60 to .75 cents! They said the same candy bar in their home town would cost them $1.25 to $1.40! Another tax for their national health care plan! These are just a couple of examples. Ask yourself a question. If the countries that have a national health care plan feel the care is so timely and good, then why do they travel to the United States and pay extra for a doctor to examine them and do surgery on them here? Could it be that a year or so wait to see a surgeon in Europe could be a death sentence before you receive the help you need? The government figures on paying for this health care plan by taxes and cuts to medical care already in place. The doctors will have little control over their practices. The government will tell them who has priorities. I know that doctors have stated that if that becomes the case, they will close their practice and retire. At 60 years old they don't need the hassle. The government must find a way to control the cost of pharmaceuticals, hospital equipment and insurance rates! That would start to lower medical costs so everyone could afford insurance. Some people just don't have health insurance as a priority, that's why they have none! I used to work with a fellow who had "his" priorities. Fast cars, fast motorcycles, and a fantastic TV and stereo system you wouldn't believe. His cable TV bill with all the extras was $110 per month when mine was $35! I had insurance, he said he couldn't afford insurance! Wonder why?
40 :
Simple, they refuse to accept those figures. They listen to lies and half truths rather than listen to the simple facts on this. I am always amazed how many Americans seem not to be aware about the real healthcare issues relying instead on FOX and other sources to spread lies about the healthcare system of the USA and those abroad. I mean, if healthcare in nations with universal coverage is so bad, why do they keep it? Obama wants to make insurance more available to all and change the system so that it gives the American people value for money [1]. He also wants change so that the insurance companies find it harder to get out of paying for treatment. The system he is proposing looks similar to that which works in Taiwan where private companies are involved in providing healthcare [2]. Obama campaigned on reforming the healthcare system. He said he wanted to make insurance more available and he was elected to do this [3]. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids both for kids aged under one and those under five than western European countries with universal health coverage [4]. FACT – American insurance companies push up prices and work to stop paying out claims on those they cover [5]. FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet [6]. That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in any western nation with universal health coverage. If you do not like the policies that Obama was elected to bring in, he can always be voted out of office in 2012. But if you disagree with the facts, please let me know. I am always willing to learn, but please provide proof. None of those who disagree with me have been able to do that so far.
41 :
I am a Republican and I'm not against health care reform. Only Obama's version of it. Why is everything so black and white to some people? I don't believe the government is very good at managing their current programs much less adding to them. Anyone been to the Post Office or DMV lately? How was your service? How well have they done with Social Security? So lets give them more? Geez...What I am for is working really hard and paying for my own way. Oh and I expect others to do the same.
42 :
BECAUSE THERE RIGHT WING IDIOTS. These neo con rednecks think nobody dies that doesn't have health care when 100 thousand people die every year because they don't have health care. IF REPUBLICANS WEREN'T AGAINST HEALTH CARE THEY WOULD PASS IT WHEN THEY WERE IN POWER. SO THERE LYING WHEN THEY SAY THERE NOT AGAINST HEALTH CARE.
43 :
If corporations could breed and have children they would be concerned but you are just talking about children of people..

how long is a child covered under his/her parents health insurance

how long is a child covered under his/her parents health insurance?

depends on the plan but usually 18 or 21 but if you are a full time student then they will cover you until your 25. again that depends on the plan
2 :
till 18 or living at home in collage
3 :
Depends on the parents' health plan offered by employer. It can exceed 18 as long as the child is a full time student and is living at home - those are key requirements. It could go to 19, 21, 23, or even 25 as was the case of my previous employer. In some cases, medical may stop at one age but vision/and or dental will stop at a different age. You will need to check with the benefits office of the employer.
4 :
That varies with the specific insurance plan.
5 :
Varies with the plan and state. You should be able to go on-line with your carrier and get the information.
6 :
Typically, until age 19 if not a student or age 25 if a full-time student. This may not be true in every case.
7 :
If your child is in college, you may want to check out health insurance programs that are written through your school. United Healthcare has a plan available at many US schools. These student injury and illness plans provide wide ranging coverage and are designed to be affordable for college students. To check if your school is participating, go to www.UHCSR.com and enter your school name in the search box. Your child might also be interested in joining the American College Student Association (ACSA), a national organization for college students. They have lots of member benefits, including student health insurance. Their membership fee is affordable.

A question regarding dependent insurance coverage until the age of 27 with the new health bill

A question regarding dependent insurance coverage until the age of 27 with the new health bill?
In the new Obama health bill, for a child to remain on the parent's insurance until the age of 27, does that child need to be enrolled in college. Are there any other prerequisites for the child to qualify for the parent's insurance?
Insurance - 3 Answers

No college enrollment needed. But this thing won't pass - you can't expect small busineses to pay 10 grand a each year to insure a worker with only a small tax break to show for it. /
2 :
Does not matter if the child is in shcool or not. But I think it is age 26, not 27.
3 :
It is age 26 and it is one of the provisions of this bill that takes effect this year. I don't know if there are any stipulations like having to live with your parents or be in college.

How can the classroom teacher promote children’s health outside the school environment

How can the classroom teacher promote children’s health outside the school environment?

Depends on the age of the children. Young kids like coloring sheets that describe good self care like hand washing, brushing teeth, cover mouth when cough, etc. Sometimes there is a free coloring book available from many Public Health Centers and coloring sheets are free on the web. Scores of books are available at the library to get you started. With older kids it gets a bit harder to teach and depends on what areas you want to cover but self care is important at all ages. Amazon has a book available that covers teaching good health and hygiene in one. If you search the web, it is also recommended for homeschoolers as well. here is site with teachers plan.
2 :
How about a unit on nutrition, ending with healthy snacks. The kids could take turns sharing their favorite healthy snack by presenting a recipe card. If possible the kids could provide their favorite snack for the rest of the class to try. Here are some healthy snack ideas: http://www.k12schoolsupplies.net/Healthy-Snacks-p/cpb0736869271.htm Then compile all the recipe cards and make a cookbook which they can use at home.

Has the laws changed on how long you can cover your children on your health insurance

Has the laws changed on how long you can cover your children on your health insurance?
I've been told you can now cc until they turn 22 even if they are not in school, unless they have a full time job and their own insurance. I'm not sure if this is only for certain insurance companies or if it is across the board. I'm going to contact my husband's insurance but before I do I was wondering if anyone here knew the answer... Thanks! One other thing, my son dropped out of school and is turning 18 this month - is he done on our insurance at that time? Thanks!

No they must be a full time student
2 :
Laws vary by state, however most that allow young adults to be added to their parents policy are for un-married dependent children,
3 :
It depends on your state. Insurance is largely regulated at the state level.
4 :
No federal law has changed, but check with your state.

At what point do you think the effort to stall sexual developement in children, damages a child's wellbeing

At what point do you think the effort to stall sexual developement in children, damages a child's wellbeing?
Our society goes to great lengths to give children, and young people, a negative impression of sex and sexuality. Do you think this has any negative effects, generally, on a child's overall mental health - or adult psychology?
Parenting - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I think a lot of things go to "damaging" children's wellbeing. I don't necessarily believe stalling their sexual development damages them so much that it shelters them from reality. Kids will find out one way or the other about sex. They're naturally curious as babies. They touch themselves, touch adults, ask "what's that" when mommy is standing there naked and her boobs on display. They know there are differences. Hiding those things from a child only makes them want to know more sooner. Kids today are actually exposed to sex too much. Girls model themselves after models who are less than a size 0 on the runway. They watch Miley Sirus dancing around in a leotard on stage like a slut _____ (or insert better word if you'd like). You have to have boundaries with kids. You have to be able to teach them right and wrong while teaching them about sex. They have to know that models aren't reality and that sex isn't always what it's made out to be. Girls getting pregnant at 12, 13, 14? "Teen Mom", "Pregnant at 16"? Do these shows help, hinder or hurt our kids sexuality? I believe parents should allow their kids to develop and learn, but slowly. They shouldn't hit puberty and be let free into the world to start having sex. They should still be monitored closely and talked to daily and told things they need to know rather than kids having to learn on their own at school.
2 :
I would say there are two categories here. First the type of sexual behaviour that's all models, Miley Cyrus tramping around stage (like somebody said before me), porno, padded bras for little girls and all that. But then there's the other one - that's just kids touching themselves, couples having sex, teens having urges, kids asking questions and learning the facts of life. I'd say that it's perfectly fine for parents to give a negative impression to the first kind of sex but if they try to keep their kids from knowing the other kind that's going a bit far because there's nothing wrong with sex if you're doing it for the right reasons.
