What are good science fair projects related to children's health

What are good science fair projects related to children's health?
I am a high school student who has an internship at a pediatric office. I need to do a science fair research project but I'm stuck and can't think of anything to do. Any suggestions please? Your ideas will be much appreciated. :)

You could do something relating to diet/exercise in kids. Especially with obesity being such a problem. Maybe you can look at the most recent research and figure out how to mold it into existing school policies/programs at little to no cost to the administration.

My sister once did a project she entitled "Candy vs. Medicine". Her entire project was based on the fact that many children's medications, especially over-the-counter drugs, look to a child like a piece of candy. She went into kindergarten classrooms throughout our parish and surveyed kids by showing them a substance. They children then had to check off whether they believed the substance was a candy or a medicine. This project worked well for her because it was relatively simple for her to do. The most complicated thing she had to do was get parents to sign consent form required by her science fair for the children to participate. Hint: Science fair judges are not looking at the complexity of your project. Rather they would rather see you have precise measurements and utilize the scientific method.

Cavities and bad dental health in child

Cavities and bad dental health in child?
My daughter is 7 years old and has terrible teeth. She has had 4 of her top front teeth capped, due to decay when she was about 3 years old, I have had 3 cavities filled and now 2 more cavities have been found and she has a abscese and dead nerve on a molar that needs to be pulled and replaced with a spacer. Do other parents have these same issues with their childrens teeth? When I talked to the dentist about it, she made it sound like it is normal, I don't believe this. My daughter brushes her teeth every day, she is only allowed pop when we go out ( I don't keep pop in the house) she does not eat a insane amount of sugar and we go to the dentist every 6 months. I have only had 2 cavities my entire life, both after I had kids. Why are her teeth so bad and will her permant teeth follow the same path? I have this same question posted under dental, but thought this would be a good place for it also.

it's most likly her diet, does she eat a lot of candy or sugar items, or it could be that she isnt getting enough calories. i had a younger brother who took kool-aid to bed every night and had lots of cavaties, avoid giving sugar items before bed where the sugar just sets on the teeth. ask your dentist about flavored disolvable tablets, i cant remember what they are called but my younger brother (he was around 7 at the time) took one or two a day, he just chewed it up, and it it supposed to help teeth. b/c it is hard to get a 7 year old to brush, but keep brushing, maybe switch toothpastes. good luck

my friend just went through this with her 5 year old son. He had to be put out and had some serious dental work done. She felt sooo guilty and they too told her that this happens. I guess some kids just have very poor teeth. If she's not flossing, I'd start that...but don't feel guilty!

Some kids are just born with awful teeth. My son is the same way. Had his first root canal and crown at the ripe age of 5! All you can keep doing it promoting good dental health. Check with your pediatrician about flouride and calcium supplements as well.

I know you don't like my advise, but it is the truth. Sugar is found in lots of "healthy" snacks For instance... Bananas Grapes Cereal Fruit snacks (not healthy) juices The list goes on and on. There is only ONE thing that causes decay. Sugar mixing with plaque. Sugar+Plaque=acid which eats away at teeth. Proper brushing and flossing is your best bet. Just because she is brushing does not mean she is getting every nook and cranny. If she does not start taking proper care of her teeth, this will continue into her adult years. PS there is no such thing as "bad" teeth as in your "born with bad teeth" that is a myth. Bad teeth are the result of BAD HYGIENE

My 4 yr old son also has "bad teeth" We brush and brush and he still gets cavities. He sees a dentist every 6 months, and every time it seems he has another cavity. The only thing you can do is keep brushing and flossing the teeth. Hopefully her permanent teeth will be stronger. My children all have deep grooves in their teeth(so did I) so that may be something to ask your dentist. The grooves can be filled in to keep the kids from getting cavities. To JP-My now 7 yr old son was born with bad teeth. The enamal did not form on all of his teeth in utero. His teeth are "soft" The permanent teeth are better than his baby teeth, but it is indeed possible to be born with bad teeth.

Some kids do have weaker enamel than others. My daughter was born with a cleft lip/palate, and I have learned that cl/p affected children do have the weaker enamel. It is something that does happen. JP is very wrong, and claims that she/he/it is a dental assistant. My kids go to the head of pediatric dentistry at Children's, he happens to be part of the cleft lip/palate team. My best friend is a dental assistant and she and her boss have told me the same. Yes, some kids DO have weak enamel, not the cause of poor dental hygiene. I should mention that my daughter's oral surgeon says the same thing.
7 :
I've got 2 kids who had the same parents and were raised basically the same. One has perfectly fine teeth. The other doesn't. In fact, the one who has fine teeth is milk-allergic, so he doesn't even get as much calcium as the other. In many cases, it's just genetic & there's not much you can do about it.
8 :
It may still be her diet. If she eats anything with sugar in it and then doesn't brush to get EVERYTHING out, bacteria will still venture in and eat away at the teeth. Acidic things such as orange juice right before bed can also be bad, some of the acid stays in and eats away the teeth.

My child's father was ordered to carry health insurance, but it covers none of the providers in my area

My child's father was ordered to carry health insurance, but it covers none of the providers in my area?
My child's father was ordered by the courts to carry health insurance on my son back in March of 2007. He neglected to inform me or the child support agency of this information, and my son has been on Badgercare (state assistance) for the past 2 months. His father's health insurance also does not cover the area that we live in, and since he does not want to see my son or have anything to do with physical placement, he does not take him to the doctor in his area which would be covered. How do I bring this up to the courts? I keep continuously being shut down by his attorney and the judge, they make him out to be god but he is just a snake. He wants to get out of paying back child support because he wants a job in another state and they won't hire him unless he is current on his child support. Help! I'm going nuts. Umm to Cecil. I have a job, fulltime, and I pay for childcare and have paid for all of my sons costs for over 18 months. This sperm donor has avoided paying support for that long. Ok. You should read the whole question before you answer. HE DOES NOT DRIVE TO SEE HIS SON. HE DOES NOT TAKE HIS SON EVEN THOUGH HE HAS JOINT LEGAL CUSTODY. THE ONLY PROVIDERS ARE OVER 2 HOURS AWAY. Now, the state also has a law that he can pay partial of my family plan if more appropriate. PLEASE READ THE QUESTION BEFORE COMMENTING!

Get an attorney. Just tell the judge you are unable to use the health insurance because it does not cover the area you live in. Ask the judge to order health insurance that you can use in your area.

Definitely use his new job conditions as your leverage. If he keeps winning in court, You need a new lawyer. If he does not visit your child, that does not excuse child support. #1 thing to do.... keep a calendar (journal) of every event. Send certified letters demanding payment. make sure he has to sign for it. If you have state insurance, he still has to reimburse you for your cost, even if minimal. His insurance must suck to not cover where you live. Is it insurance or a discount plan? Discount plans do not qualify for health insurance. Send a copy of your health insurance orders in your divorce decree to his employer. Also, you should easily be able to get a wage garnishment if he has a regular employer. Your lawyer should have done all of this. Do you have a child support division or Attorney general in your state that will assist you? They normally give a discount on his child support due to the costs he will incur for medical support, let them know that he is not covering your child w/ medical support, so you want that discount added back into your child support payment. Child support does not go away, however the government seems to reward those who do not pay with a discount after they get ridiculously behind.... The states claim to have gotten tougher on Dead Beat Dads but I haven't seen it. Sorry for you and your child...God Bless Don't know about yours, but my decree states that if he does not adequate health insurance, then u have the right to get it through your employer, and He has to reimburse you the cost of your premiums. Please tell me what kind of health insurance he has...Is it through his employer?

The insurance is useless if it doesn't actually cover your son, so he should be ordered to change to a carrier in your area. A motion to modify can be filed. However, if the judge is biased against you, then you may want to consider hiring a lawyer to ensure that you are being treated fairly. if you can't afford to hire a lawyer, you may be eligible for free legal representation through a legal aid clinic in your area. Call the state bar association in your area and request contact info for legal aid clinics. You can also ask if they maintain a list of attorneys that handle cases on a pro bono basis. Also, whenever the judge rules against you, you should ask the judge to enter findings and conclusions of law. This will help you understand why the judge is ruling the way they are and it will allow you file an appeal if necessary. Do not give up, stay persistent. If you are forced to represent yourself, begin studying the rules of procedure for your court. The rules of procedure will help you understand the court's process and you may discover other tactics that you can take against your ex and the court. hope this helps, good luck.

As long as the health insurance covers doctors in your husbands area there is nothing you can do. The courts can not make him carry a insurance plan that is more convenience for you , they can only mandate he has one. Insurance is a big deal and if your son has it then you should be driving to where the doctors are. You can drive to the doctors just as easily as he can drive to his son.
5 :
Take the court order (you should have a copy of it) requiring insurance to the office where you sign up for Badgercare. I am surprised your ex isn't already getting notices for payment. My wife and I went through this with FLAKids and her ex and the agency took care of it.
6 :
If the doctors are by where he lives and it would be a hardship for him to find a doctor if his insurance was switched then the courts would not do it. He also has to have access to HIS health insurance and just like it is a hardship for you to drive far for a doctor it would be for him to drive far for a doctor. If there is a carrier that offers the same benefits and has doctors in both your areas then the court would tell him to switch, but other than than he complied with the court order. And you bottom question is confusing--if your child is on tax paid state insurance and you have insurance why is your son not on yours?
