Health care for every child under the age of 18, guaranteed, no questions asked

Health care for every child under the age of 18, guaranteed, no questions asked?
Is this a good thing, or a bad thing? I'm just wondering. Seems since America is such a wonderful land, and the leader of the free world, this should be attainable. If you have insurance, it's ok. My daughter just broke her arm, and it has been a fairly painless process for us (well, not her...she is broken!) What about the uninsured folks? What's your take on this American issue? Open4One: You are absolutely right. It would cost, and somebody would have to pay. I just threw this question out here hoping for some good debate. And to see how people felt about it. All I'm talking about is kids...yes, any kids. I don't care what country they come from. Personally, I think it is cruel to tell a kid that they can't be seen for their cancer because their mommy and daddy dragged them across the border.

Exactly how does that work? Are we going to require the doctors to work for free, or are we going to take tax money from those that have insurance for their families to pay the doctors to treat people without insurance? I think it's a great idea, but I'm just wondering who we are going to steal from to do this.

46 million Americans have no basic health insurance. Half of that number are Women and Children, no other major country on Earth treats Women and Children this badly. I would like to see them covered but I prefer allowing them to buy into Medicare for themselves and the kids up to age 18. This would help new moms with pre natal care and Kids with regular Doctor visits and early treatment. As it is now, tax payers pay anyway because all the un insured go without regular visits til the illness gets really bad then they are a charity case. That increases cost for those that can pay for Health care and don't have Insurance.

lCost ! The price for decent, universal health care is prohibitive. Besides, I am not my brothers keeper. There are way too many dead beats looking for others to resolve their problems, and the fact is, nobody is denied health care, in an emergency. I suppose it is your thought to offer this amenity to illegal immigrants, as well. If you really want to know more about it, study the Canadian health care plan. Those in Canada who can afford it, drop down to the lower 48 for their health care. In Canada, the quality of care, and the long, long waits, make it extremely undesirable.

maybe its just AZ but here we have AHCCCS (Arizona health care cost containment system) I was raised by a WORKING single mother and was raised on ahcccs health care. docs have said its best insurance available. its availabe to all low income families and individuals. Problem for liberals is that its a state thing and liberals hate states rights and individualism, they want the UNITED STATE of america. give up on the fed gove. and go bother youre individual state to take action.

NO, not if you TRULY belive in fairness. The American way is that everyone gets the same chance at a good life and that by getting what you earned you end up better off than those who didn't do enough to earn a good life. Socialized anything is terribely unfair to anyone who works hard. Besides your not very well informed, we Americans give more money, food, free health care, and other aid to the less fortunate than any other 2 or 3 countries combined. We sent hundreds of millions and thousands of people for aid to indoneisa after the tsuanami, the Britts sent cots in boxes. Socialists don't really care about the poor, they just say they do to gain power. lol @ "yummy mummy"- I feel sorry for you sweet heart! You have no idea what GOOD health care is I have heard from many americans who have had Britt health care while visiting, and they are all horrified by how bad it is. China is even worse, worlds tallest woman is dieing because she can't get a surgery she needs to turn off her growth gland.

1st sorry to hear about your daughter. I live in Australia. And as an Australian you have the right to free medical care. Medicare is available to all Australians, whether you are born here or become a citizen. No matter how rich or poor you are. You take your medicare card to the doctor or hospital with you and then the doctor or hospital bills Medicare later for your consultation. Now, with the way the US economy is compared to the AU economy, then why can't the US Government get it together?

I think free health care should be a given in any developed country. I also think it is cruel and inhumain to let people suffer proper health care just because they aren't as well off as others.

What do you think, Obama literally wants universal health care?
According to a news article Obama wants to set aside 63 billion dollars to fight world disease and for prenatal/post natal care as well as children's health for countries other than the US. Bush set aside money ($15 billion) for aids and malaria originally but Obama is increasing the amount plus adding prenatal/post natal care as well as children's health.

In a perfect world, we could have UHC. In the real world, forget about it! We are already paying way too many taxes. Just imagine how many new justified taxes we would have if they provided everyone with health insurance? They would actually own us just that much more. Most would feel so guilty that they would willfully pay another 10% of their income to have this provided. They wouldn't be able to balance a budget for such a thing and the reason that I believe that is the fact that they can't balance a budget for anything (pretending that they care and aren't actually working for the bank of the world). You think that health care is half-arsed with your HMO or PPO? Just imagine if the government was in charge of it. And those who have something that they want to hide on their medical history will eventually have their information posted on the internet. Everything is taken that far. It would appear so, wouldn't it? One of the biggest issues I had with the Bush administration is they were so focused on other countries and neglected the needs of Americans. Obama is doing more of that. AMERICA elected him. AMERICA is the only goddamn country he should be worrying about! I think universal health care will back doored as through acts you describe, look at SCHIP, look at Medicare Funding. and State Programs. The point is the federal government does not care it can not afford it as long as in principle they make good on promises to those who want it.

That is so important in helping people make their minds. The last point I can make is that one can see that Obama really did do his research in coming up with this plan. For that Obama should really be commended for it. On a personal note, it am still not sure if universal health-care is the best for US. So even though Obama has a lot of minor points that I like, I am still reserved about universal health-care unless he shows us the $$. Things that I am on the edge of We are already spending so much on health care. By giving people a national health insurance plan, wouldn't that skyrocket American expenses? Are we giving more with our left hand that we are receiving with our right? On what basis are we going to brand and grade insurance companies? How is the government going to defend against corruption and lobbyists with the National Health Insurance Exchange? How much is re-insurance for employers going to cost the taxpayer? SCHIP already cost the taxpayer more than $200 billion. How much more would it cost if it is expanded? Even though Obama's plan has got more positives than negatives, glaring fiscal questions need to be answered. Furthermore, I am not yet convinced that universal health-care, a central theme in this policy would be great for the country. Obama's plan is not bad, but not that much better than McCain's shorter plan as it fails to disclose the costs that would incur with his plan. What do you think? Whose plan do you think is better?

Obama is bankrupting the nation and our children will pay the price. His dream of universal health care is just that, a dream. It will never happen.

I would rather lower the cost of private healthcare you pay each month. I would not trust government healthcare. I was treated badly by doctors when I used to be on medicaid than I do now with private.

I have written the following: "Health is a precious good which should never be neglected. So, all children should have a balanced diet, practice exercize, sleep well and vaccinate themselves" What else should I state? And how could I develop the points above?

I'm not an M.D. myself, but I remember vaguely from health and science class and so on that some special considerations with children's health are 1) Less developed immune system than adults. That's why some diseases are more deadly in children than adults. For the same reason (I don't remember the details), children are more likely to recover from certain types of leukemia and cancers. And this is also why vaccination is a good idea (albeit, some additives/preservatives in some vaccines, MMR for instance, have been suggested to cause problems such as increases incidence of autism). 2)Children are still growing, and grow in spurts, so their nutritional requirements are quite different from adults. What kid has never heard of the dread cod liver oil? Australian children get Vegemite, a paste of yeast extract, hence they are called "happy little Vegemites". 3)Exercise and active play for children not only develop their muscles and coordination, but also their minds and socialization. You might argue more play, less study, especially for very small children (like under 10). And (just a minor point) don't let children vaccinate themselves. Leave that to the doctor or nurse. I would suggest you start looking at any popular manual on raising children. Lift stuff from that, but credit the source properly (to avoid plagiarism), then look at the suggested further reading (bibliography) of the book for more direct sources.
