some questions about child support and medicaid


some questions about child support and medicaid?
social services sent me a letter saying that if i dont cooperate with child support then they would cut off my medicaid. i do need my medicaid because i already have health problems and i cant get any other health insurance my child father does take care if his child what would happen if my child father lost his job and wasnt able to pay ? would he go to jail? and does child support means he will have to pay until our son turns 18 ? what if we were to get married , what would happen ?

They don't send you right off to jail if you loose your job and are paying child support. Yes he would have to pay until he is 18 and even longer if there is any back support they need to get. If you marry there wouldn't be any new charges but again he would have to continue to pay for any back charges still pending.

Even if the father is unemployed, he would be liable for paying something towards child support. Probably not as much as he would be required to pay if he were employed, but something. And yes, he can go to jail for failure to pay. Child support usually runs until a child turns 18 or graduates high school. In some states, it can run until they are 19 and some child support orders contain provisions for college. If you get married and stay married, child support is a non-issue. He wouldn't have to pay other than any in arrears.

Child support is required if you ask for government support. If you don't ask for government support, you don't have to go after child support. As long as someone is providing and the government doesn't have to pay for anything, they don't care if you are on child support or not.
