What kinds of health problems do you guys have? I'm not sure what this question is supposed to be about. Are you trying to figure out how to homeschool your child? Try posting this in the education section. You will find some parents who homeschool and can give you advice. Also, put that your question is about homeschooling in the title so people will know. Something like "I want to start homeschooling, can you give me advice?" Hope this helps!

How does poverty affect children's health

How does poverty affect children's health?

it all comes down the the parents young mothers: not all are bad but majority can bairly look after them self let alone a small child If in usa: poverty effects insurance and so children could not be medically insured parents life choises: passive smoking and drinking parents mental health can effect the mental health of the children poor diets: if there parents dont have the money they cant feed them well causing obesity as well as other major diseases
2 :
This is taken directly from an Associated Content article. "New research performed at Cornell University has finally identified a reason as to why experiencing poverty as a child leads to poor health and a decreased life expectancy as an adult regardless of socio-economic status. The researchers attribute it to weakened and overextended stress responders that lead to other health problems, especially in the adult years." There was more in the article about it too, must read. Why do Republicans oppose government health care for children but support gov. health care for old people

Why do Republicans oppose government health care for children but support gov. health care for old people?
Almost every Republican voted against the Children's Health Insurance Program each and every time it came up, yet those same Republicans voted in favor of expanding and improving Medicare benefits. Anyone explain?

Old people have votes !
2 :
One of their arguments could be that most people on Medicare have already paid into it. The government pays for child care. But what you say is interesting nonetheless.
3 :
Children= no money Old people= money. They want the elderly to pay for other things, while children don't buy anything, so the government doesn't get anything from taxes. Why do you think each government official is paid so darn much?
4 :
because theyre selfish hoobs who believe society should leave a child to die of an untreated abscess rather than provide early treatment that would save his life http://www.gazette.net/stories/030807/prinnew190705_32325.shtml the idea that the US is a christian nation really is laughable
5 :
The current medicaid system already covers children under such names as Health care USA. You need to look at California as an example of why expanding health care to all children (illegals) drains the system- hospitals are closing left and right due to illegals. No child can be turned away #1 and if the parents make below a specific income their children are covered 100%, what else do you want? As a health care professional I resent the facts being distorted making it appear that children are neglected by the current system, the facts do not match up to what you are saying. Obama's goal towards Socialized medicine will be horrific for anyone seeking medical care- Quality will be down the toilet for people with cancer, Diabetes, Chronic hypertension, HIV and the list goes on.... We have the best medical system in the world because we are not socialized and anyone in need of medical care will get it, their are resources available for everyone.
6 :
I haven't seen any "Republicans" for several decades. Perhaps you were referring to "Liberals." Yes, you must have. "Liberals" is the proper term for such people. The name of their party is of no significance anymore.
7 :
Medicare is a program that people have paid for during their working days and still pay for by a deduction every month from their social security checks Children's Health Insurance could be simular to medicaid and welfare which means it would have to be paid for entirely by the tax payer, all well if feasible
8 :
why do democrats oppose executing mad-dog serial killers and child molesters, but consider the killing of innocent unborn children a 'choice?'
9 :
Children can't vote, so there is no reason to "pander" to them.
10 :
young people don't vote Republican but lots of old people do.
11 :
Probably for the same reason they love capital punishment but vote against abortion. Last I checked death is death no matter what end your on. But then again according to a report I saw last week the largest consumers of porn are Christian Conservatives with Utah consuming the most. Maybe voting age has something to do with it also. But that almost seems secondary..
12 :
Children are covered. Kailan is right.
13 :
In truth, the GOP ideologues hate Medicare at least as much as SCHIP, it's just that they depend on geriatrics for votes. They would like nothing more than to tell sick old people to f*** off and die, just as they did to sick uninsured kids in 2007. They don't believe they have any sort of collective responsibility at all, only a responsibility to seek maximum profit at all times, in all circumstances, and without regard to the general interest. It's quite an interesting psychological pathology.
14 :
You need to do more research. A Republican Congress created the Children's Health Insurance Program in 1997, along a party line vote. Every Democrats in the House, voted against creating the program. The only time Republicans have voted against the program, is since the Dems regained the majority in the House. Because the Dems, wanted to expand the program to adults and people making 80,000 a year.
15 :
simple...two words LIBERAL PORK you "forgot" that the pelosi/reid regime loaded that childrens bill with MASSIVE amounts of pork medicare is paid for and contributed to. that childrens bill was a liberal spending spree and was correctly vetoed.
16 :
Because they are told to. If they knew the facts, they might have a different view on things. FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage. That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.

I think it must be time to at least consult a doctor about it because you're asking this. But no one here knows the whole situation so talk to a child psychologist about it and get some help while he's young enough. Treatments for those disorders you listed are getting better all the time.

I am really dealing with this issue too. Please read the article I just read. It helped me alot. Good luck to you.

Insurance costs for people with only 1 child

Insurance costs for people with only 1 child?
In your state, how do insurance costs differ for people with only 1 child? Here in NY State, I was lucky enough to be eligible for Child Health Care Plus for my son. I am a single parent. I paid a small premium each month. I had insurance through my jobs that paid in full for single insurance but it cost a fortune for family coverage. What I thought was unfair was that people with 1 or 2 kids paid the same premium each month as those who had a slew of kids. I felt the cost should be staggered.

Regardless of the state where you live, rates are typically 4-tiered: single coverage 2 adults (employee + spouse) 1 adult + child(ren) family (married couple and child(ren)) Generally, you do not pay more or less depending on the number of children you have.
2 :
Are we talking about health insurance here?? Or insurance in general? I hear all the time, "Oh, my house is 13 feet from a hydrant, I deserve a lower rate than the guy who's house is 18 feet from a hydrant next door". But the truth of the matter is, it COSTS MONEY to set rates, and there has to be a cutoff somewhere. MOST companies have "individual", "family", "individual and spouse", "Individual and one child", so that the rates for family ARE more than one person and one child. But the bottom line is, health insurance is EXPENSIVE. Because you're pretty darned guaranteed to get at least 2-4 claims EVERY YEAR on it.

To whom do I report staggering incompetence in the Nevada State Child Welfare/Mental Health departments

To whom do I report staggering incompetence in the Nevada State Child Welfare/Mental Health departments?
My friend's 14 y.o. brother is being "rehabilitated" in the Nevada State Children's services health and welfare departments. He is in there because he molested his younger brothers and sisters. His therapists are saying there is only a 50/50 chance he will molest again, and they are FORCING his mother to take him back because MEDICAID has run out. They keep putting words in his mouth whenever he insists that he WILL do it again, telling his family that he doesn't mean that. There are seven other minor children in the house, and the state workers are telling the mom that if it DOES happen again SHE could get in trouble and LOSE HER OTHER KIDS. This woman has adopted these children to take them AWAY from this kind of life. So, WHO do I call, write, knock on the office door of? I'm drafting letters to the state senators and representatives, the DA, and the local news paper. I'm going to work on the local news and talk radio outlets. Any more ideas? In before: "state workers were your first problem," "kill him," "why does she have so many kids," "adoption is dangerous," etc. etc. Any smart ass answers will be reported. This boy is 16 and an adopted son. The other minor children are all adopted as well. This happened at home, no teachers involved. I can tell you that this 16 y.o. boy did what he did with intent, not out of misguidance or misunderstanding.

The nice thing about government agencies is that there are always other agencies on top, like a pyramid. Find out who is head of this particular agency, and go to that person. If that doesn't help, then go to their superior, and so on. The local papers, senators, and representatives are a good idea, as well. If you can find your local representative, I'd suggest making an appointment to sit down in his office and discuss it---it's easier to get your point across that way than in a letter. Go all the way up to the governor if you have to. Best of luck to you.
2 :
If Medicaid has run out then school districts can also get involved if he is in some sort of institution. How long has he been held? and how did that come about? Was it a report by a teacher etc that was investigated or was it more of a criminal offense where he was treated as a youthful offender? Are these foster children that she is housing? If so then they all have case workers/ state workers who have to protect their welfare. Is he her biological son or another adopted/foster son? Have you spoken to the boy yet? Or has the mother? Some children are sexually reactive and act out sexually because of their experiences as opposed to seeking to cause harm. Most states only house a child until their treatment is thought to be complete or effective or in his case until there is no more funding. Have you tried speaking to the Case/State Workers Supervisor. Try putting your grievances in writing and if necessary consulting a lawyer.

In your opinion, do you think spanking is detrimental to a child's mental health

In your opinion, do you think spanking is detrimental to a child's mental health?

Psychology - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No, assuming you are just talking about a spanking. You can spank your child, you can't leave a mark. We were beaten as children and what our parents did to us was criminal and certainly harmful to us. I think if you instill discipline when a child is small enough, there isn't a need for a spanking.
2 :
Hi, I am a father to 5 children. I don't think spanking is detrimental to a child's mental health up to a certain age. I spanked all of our kids until around 7 yrs old. After 7 yrs old, I made them write Bible verses or lines. Of course you can take away their privileges as they get older. Some folks spank their kids after 8 yrs old. I don't think it's as effective then. HTH, Erik Loebl http://miracleshappentoday.com
3 :
no i do not think a spanking or two would damage a child's mental health . i do know that i got a spanking in school when i was a kid. no idea why but i remember the spanking . i think it is not the way to go if you can find another solution to the problem that does not involve hitting use that. on the other hand if you need the child to comply right then for some reason say running onto the road then a spanking is ok . again i don't like the practise .
4 :
I'm sure that any kind of punishment is detrimental if it's used carelessly or in an extreme way. What matters most is the child understanding what "No" means. The parents must be in control, and that can't be accomplished without some kind of punishment. If it can't be done without spanking, so be it.
5 :
I don't know if it extremely detrimental to a child's mental health. But it's time to look at the parents mental health if that is considered appropriate behaviour management techniques being used. What does it make a parent feel like releasing their frustration out on a child's bottom? That should be what one should question, and yes, that is done at the expense of the child's mental health for sure.
6 :
Yes. It teaches them to hit those who are weaker. It fails to teach them how to deal with problems effectively.
