hello i need some advice on my child's health

hello i need some advice on my child's health?
hi i have a five year old boy he complains now and then about an itch he has in his bottom ,most times i think it is just that he is not cleaning right after he has a bowel movement . tonight he complained more then usual so i went to clean him myself and he was not dirty . then he said that it itched inside , so my question is what could this be he scratches around 3-5 times a day and do you know a web site where i can get more info on what this might be ,or what can i do to help ease the itching till i can go see his doctor ? he says it don't bother him when he is running around or jumping

Given his age, I would suspect what your son has is a case of pinworms. Especially if he seems to complain of the itch more at night. It could also cause more itch directly after a bowel movement as the tiny parasites are in the locale waiting to exit while he sleeps to lay eggs on the outside skin. He could also simply have itcy dry skin, from soap that is not being rinsed away well after a bath. There isn't a lot to ease the itch that is a good thing to use in that particular area, although they do make a cream for vaginal itching for women that you could try. Otherwise, I suggest checking between the cheeks at night while he's asleep to see if you can visualize the little worms. The doctor has a few other tests he can use to detect them as well. But that would be my first suspicion. It's not a big deal if he has them, it's easily treated with a course of tablets or even over the counter medications available. Kids just get them sometimes, especially the preschool set.

ouch! If it is inside, I would skip the regular doctor and go straight to the gastroenterologist. Its probably nothing try neosporin or other anti-itch and a warm bath.
