Hawaii ending universal health care for kids because it doesn't work

Hawaii ending universal health care for kids because it doesn't work?
Gee, give away free health care and everyone piles in. Sounds like bad fiscal policy. Didn't work in Hawaii, won't work in the rest of the US: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081017/ap_on_he_me/child_health_hawaii

There you go again, talking common sense and logic. That won't work in this election!

Actually, I think you have missed the point entirely. The program is being halted because Hawaii's state government found that supposedly middle class families who could afford health care and would not be participating in the program leapt at the chance to obtain free care. What does that tell you? It tells you that far fewer middle class families in this country can actually afford health care for their children. This is precisely why our government must overhaul the health care system in this country.
